be like the love that discovered the sin
[what was supposed to be a routine supply run has turned into something of a nightmare, as it does and always will when Lucifer requests to come along. despite no longer being the supreme primarch, scarred and lacking the full magnitude of his former radiance, mortal skydwellers still find him impossibly alluring. it's frustrating on more than one level, especially the Sandalphon, and makes even the most simple tasks in populated areas quickly become mob situations.
it falls to Sandalphon to keep things from boiling over into a serious incident, and after being stopped for the fifth time on one city block with a quickly gathering crowd forming behind them, he wordlessly grabs Lucifer by the wrist and takes off into a back alley. the narrow entrance bottlenecks the crowd, and the few that do power through are almost immediately left behind by the angels' inhuman speed. Sandalphon doesn't stop until they're safely far away, weaving through the backstreets to create a truly impossible trail to follow, only slowing back down to a walk once he's noted the significant change in architecture.]
Lucifer, you don't have to stop to talk to every person who approaches you.
[he's trying not to sound too annoyed, but it's difficult. Sandalphon doesn't want Lucifer to be cooped up on the Grancypher all the time, only venturing out for missions in less populated areas. there's nothing he wants more, in fact, than to be able to spend time with him in the cities too, to be able to show him all the strange and wonderful things mortals have come up with, but this always, always happens.
it's frustrating, and more than just in the way that it impedes their errands. all the people outright demanding Lucifer's attention, like they're owed it, sits uncomfortably with him.]

Sandalphon... ?
[ lucifer murmurs his name, thin eyebrows knit together. he can't begin to imagine what the problem is, and that bothers him, because he's so tired of not understanding sandalphon. after every trial they'd endured, all lucifer wants is to start anew with him as equals, but that's proven to be easier said than done. it seems to be especially difficult when they traverse outside the ship together. ]
Although I fail to understand the attention, I wouldn't want to be rude. What is the harm in it?

We came here for our own purposes. We'll never be able to get anything done if we don't rebuff some of them.
[or any time alone, he doesn't add, but at least they seem to be on their own now, in this thankfully clean alley.]

[ he hesitates, glancing down at his wrist in sanalphon's grasp, but he trusts that sandalphon knows what they're doing, so he'll go along with it. ]
Lead the way, then. I'll stay close to you.

[it still feels strange to have Lucifer defer to him on this matter, any matter, really. having Lucifer put his trust in him like this is startling and new, but not entirely unpleasant— something about it almost exhilarating.
noticing that Lucifer's glancing down at where he's holding onto his wrist, however, is a little too much. he immediately drops it, but not before thinking up a quick explanation.]
It will be easier if you keep your face covered.
[like you're supposed to, he doesn't add. the hood on the new cloak they had made for Lucifer a few towns ago was knocked off sometime after the disembarked, leaving his heavenly face completely unhindered to the public eye. Sandalphon turns to face him directly, standing on his toes to carefully reach up and pull it back into place, trying not to dwell too much on how this is just a new thinly veiled excuse to be close to Lucifer.]

[ lucifer isn't too fond of the cloak, but he realizes that he can't afford to be picky about something so trivial. when sandalphon comes closer and adjusts his hood, though, his cheeks radiate a peculiar warmth, warmth that he's becoming rapidly familiar with the more time he spends here with sandalphon, traversing the world lucifer has spent so long adoring but never truly seeing.
and as brief and fleeting as the contact was, he's all too aware of the absence of sandalphon's hand. ]
Would you like to hold hands? So we don't get separated.
[ that's not the real reason lucifer would like to hold hands, of course, but his expression doesn't give anything away save for the faint pink coloring his cheeks. the smile he gives sandalphon is so easy—like he's asking about something as simple as the weather. ]

Lucifer probably doesn't mean it in that way, or know what it implies, but Sandalphon can't bring himself to care.]
Yes, that will make things easier if something happens again.
[he reaches out to take Lucifer's hand, confidently this time, threading their fingers together before starting out back toward the open street.]

[ he had expected him to hesitate, but sandalphon has been very capable of surprising him as of late, and that only makes his expression grow fonder. he gives his hand a reassuring squeeze, marveling at the way their fingers fit together. ]
Perhaps we could allow ourselves a brief reprieve from errands. I would be thrilled to visit your cafe again.
[ it will be a bit of a walk to get back to the ship, but they do have supplies to drop off, and it would be a good opportunity. of course lucifer has indulged in sandalphon's coffee countless times before, but his cafe is usually bustling. he quite likes the idea of it being just the two of them, while the others are still out doing this and that. ]

he glances up sidelong at Lucifer, as if he's still unused to looking at him directly, having the former primarch so close and tangible again.]
That ... I suppose we could return to the ship, if that's what you'd like.
i had to
[ lucifer is one to notice those lidded gazes, and it makes him feel compelled to keep his eyes fixated on sandalphon, always meeting him head on. and every time their eyes lock, he offers him a smile.
as they start walking, lucifer hums to himself, then turns his head to ask an earnest question. ]
Sandalphon, has anyone ever told you what delicate fingers you have?
no subject
it leaves him totally unprepared for Lucifer dropping that line. he nearly sputters, hardly expecting to hear that from him, of all people. the captain truly was an unforgiving master, to continue to torment him like this. he's told her multiple times how truly sorry he is, how much more does she expect him to repent ... ?]
Someone has told me that ... a few times before.
